Heating & Cooling F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s recommended to have your HVAC system professionally serviced at least once a year—ideally in the spring for cooling systems and in the fall for heating systems. Regular maintenance includes inspecting and cleaning coils, checking refrigerant levels, tightening electrical connections, and ensuring all components work properly.

This preventative maintenance helps catch minor issues before they turn into costly repairs. It also ensures that your system runs efficiently, saving you money on energy bills. A well-maintained HVAC system lasts longer and provides consistent comfort throughout the year.

Improving your HVAC system’s efficiency starts with regular maintenance, such as changing filters, cleaning ducts, and scheduling professional inspections.

Installing a programmable thermostat helps optimize temperature control and reduces energy waste. Sealing air leaks around doors, windows, and ductwork prevents heat loss and improves overall system performance. Keeping vents unblocked and ensuring proper airflow throughout your home also helps maintain efficiency.

Upgrading to an energy-efficient HVAC system with a high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rating can further lower energy costs.

If your HVAC system runs continuously, it could be due to a dirty air filter, incorrect thermostat settings, or an issue with the blower motor.

A clogged filter restricts airflow, making the system work harder to maintain the desired temperature. If the thermostat is set too low in summer or too high in winter, the system may struggle to reach the set temperature. A malfunctioning component, such as a stuck relay or a faulty compressor, can also cause the system to run nonstop.

Checking these factors can help identify the issue, but a professional inspection may be necessary.

If your furnace is blowing cold air, it could be due to several issues, including thermostat settings, a dirty air filter, or a malfunctioning igniter. First, check that the thermostat is set to “heat” and not “fan,” as the fan setting can cause the system to blow unheated air. A clogged filter can restrict airflow, preventing the furnace from heating properly.

If the pilot light is out or the igniter is faulty, the furnace won’t be able to generate heat. In some cases, issues with the gas supply or burner can also lead to cold air blowing from your vents.
